What Size TV Unit Do You Need
Most people choose the TV first and the TV unit second, and that is the right order. The unit has to carry the screen, look balanced under it, and leave space to walk past. A unit that is narrower than the TV looks unstable, and one that is too deep takes floor space you need.
This guide gives you the unit width for each common TV size, the right height, the viewing distance, and real unit sizes from our collection.
Step 1: Know how wide your TV really is
TV sizes are measured diagonally in inches, so a 65 inch TV is not 65 inches wide. These are the approximate widths of the screen itself:

The exact width depends on the model, so check the measurements of your own TV, including the feet if it stands on the unit. Some TVs have feet near the two ends, and the unit must be wide enough for both.
Step 2: Choose a unit wider than the TV
The TV unit should always be wider than the TV. As a minimum, add 15 to 20 cm to the screen width. For a balanced look, the TV should take about two thirds to three quarters of the unit.

Step 3: Check the height
When you sit on the sofa, your eyes should be level with the middle of the screen or slightly above it. For most sofas that means the middle of the screen is about 100 to 110 cm from the floor.
- TV standing on the unit: a unit of 45 to 60 cm puts most TVs at a comfortable height.
- TV mounted on the wall: the unit height matters less. Leave 15 to 25 cm between the top of the unit and the bottom of the TV, so the two look like one composition.
Avoid mounting the TV very high on the wall. Looking up for a whole evening strains the neck.
Step 4: Check the viewing distance
Measure from the screen to where your head is when you sit, not to the front of the sofa.

If your room gives you less than this, choose the smaller TV. If the sofa is much further away, the larger TV and a wider unit will look right on the wall.
Step 5: Do not forget the depth
The depth of the unit is how far it comes out from the wall. Our units are between 34 and 50 cm deep. A slim unit of 34 to 40 cm is the better choice in a narrow living room. Whatever the depth, keep at least 60 cm free in front of the unit to walk, and 40 to 45 cm between the sofa and the coffee table.

Storage and cables
- Count what goes inside: receiver, game console, router, speakers. Closed doors hide them, open shelves let remote controls work without opening anything.
- Check where the wall socket and the TV point are. The unit should cover them or stand right below them.
- Leave a few centimetres behind the unit for plugs and cables.
